Solihull tragedy: 10-year-old boy victim remembered as a “hero”

One of the boys killed in the Solihull lake tragedy has been named. Three children lost their lives after falling through a frozen lake on Sunday, December 12th. One of the boys, aged 10, has been named locally as Jack Johnson. The young boy has been hailed a hero after locals revealed he tried to help rescue another one of the children from the water. A local told Daily Mail that he rushed to the child's rescue after they fell through the ice. They said; "Jack and the other lads saw that it had been snowing from the flats and wanted to go and play," they shared. "They rushed across to the park and were playing on top of the frozen lake, when the ice cracked." They added, "It's so tragic. Jack was a lovely lad. I know his dad Kirk. He is devastated. My heart goes out to him." According to Sky News, one boy got his leg stuck in the ice when he was playing. A local told the publication that the children rushed to help him, but the ice gave in and they fell into the water. "They were all playing on the ice, one got their legs stuck in the ice and then… his friends went to go and save him, but they all fell in." Rescuers pulled four children from the water, but another two are feared dead. Three boys, aged 8, 10, and 11 have been pronounced dead. A 6-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital. This morning, West Midlands Police continued their search. They shared, "Our searches at Babbs Mill lake in Kingshurst will continue today. The six-year-old boy remains in the hospital in critical condition. We will release further updates as soon as we are able."
