The Irish victim is being treated in a specialist burn unit
An Irish woman has been rushed to hospital in Costa del Sol, Nerja after her dress caught fire in a freak accident.
The woman, believed to be 29 years of age, was attending a wedding when the incident took place.
The freak accident reportedly occurred last Thursday, September 19th.
The woman’s dress caught fire from decorative candles in the bathroom.
Fellow wedding guests called emergency services after she was found semi-conscious in their accommodation in Nerja.
The alarm was raised shortly after midnight on September 19th. Guests were attending an after-party at holiday apartments in Nerja when the incident took place.
The woman, whose identity has not been publically disclosed, was initially rushed to hospital in Malaga.
She underwent emergency surgery at the hospital before being moved to the burns unit at Seville’s Virgen del Rocio University Hospital.
According to reports, the woman has suffered severe burns to her legs and body, but her condition “remains uncertain.”
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed they’re aware of the case.
They’re offering to provide consular assistance to those affected.
In a statement to The Independent, they confirmed: “As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the detail of individual cases.”
