It’s been confirmed that an Irish person has been injured after a car drove into a crowd in Melbourne.
19 people were injured, with 13 of them needing medical assistance in a nearby hospital, after a car deliberately drove into a crowd on a busy city centre street, Flinders Street, on Thursday.
A witness told Sky News that the car was seen breaking a red light and driving straight into the crowd. Young children were among those struck by the car, with one sustaining a serious head injury.
According to RTÉ, it has now been confirmed that there was an Irish person among those who were struck by the car. Their condition has not been described as life-threatening and the Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance.
A 32-year-old man was arrested following the incident, as was a 24-year-old man.
