You really can’t make this stuff up.
Raised in West Cork but now based in London, 22-year-old actress, Ayoola Smart, was busy preparing for her biggest Irish stage role yet until a fidget spinner got in the way.
The talented actress has been forced to withdraw from the role after suffering a concussion from colliding with Ireland’s latest toy craze.
Smart is most famous for appearing in BBC’s Holby City and ITV’s Vera and has featured on The Globe stage in the Taming of the Shrew.
She had been cast to play Serena the Mermaid in the award-winning Futureproof which was to be premiered in the Everyman Theatre as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival from 16-24 June and the actress could not hide her excitement on Twitter.

Sadly, according to the Irish Examiner, doctors have ordered Smart to rest for up to two weeks after diagnosing the head injury after last week’s incident which occurred at the Wilton shopping centre in Cork.
The actress was standing still in the shopping centre when a child nearby who was playing with the gadget, lost control of the fidget spinner which then struck Smart behind one of her ears.
This bizarre incident comes a week after customs officials impounded just over 200,000 fidget spinners amid fears over their safety.
