An investigation has been launched following the discovery of large amounts of drugs in the stomach of a man who died aboard an Aer Lingus flight.
The post-mortem examination confirmed the 24-year-old had ingested a large amount of a substance, believed to be cocaine.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster confirmed John Kennedy Santos Gurjao (24) had swallowed around 0.8kg of the drug.
The drugs were wrapped in approximately 80 pellets and ingested. Gurjao became ill on the flight and it is believed that a pallet may have burst in his stomach.
The drugs have an estimated street value of €56,000.
A number of medical personnel aboard the flight attended to the man and performed CPR until the plane made an emergency landing in Cork.
