Tributes have been pouring in for the classical singer.

The vocal group Il Divo has announced the death of singer Carlos Marin.

The German-born Spanish singer was 53.

In a statement shared to Twitter, the group said: “It is with heavy hearts that we are letting you know that our friend and partner, Carlos Marin, has passed away.

“He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. There will never be a voice or spirit like Carlos.”

The statement continued: “For 17 years the four of us have been on this incredible journey of Il Divo together, and we will miss our dear friend. We hope and pray that his beautiful soul will rest in peace.”

The message was signed off by the other members of Il Divo – David Miller, Sébastien Izambard and Urs Bühler.

The news of Marin’s passing comes just days after the group shared that he was in hospital and that they were “hoping and praying for a speedy recover”. As a result, a number of performance dates for December had been postponed.

Tributes to the singer have been pouring in on social media.

Music mogul Simon Cowell, who formed the group under his label SyCo, said on Twitter: “I am finding this so difficult to put into words how I feel right now. I am devastated Carlos Marin has passed away.

“He loved life. He loved performing and always had so much appreciation towards the fans who supported the group from day 1.

“Rest in peace Carlos. I will miss you.”

Michael Ball sent his condolences to Marin’s family and friends. He tweeted: “Unbelievably sad to hear of the passing of the lovely @carlosmarin_ a charismatic, charming and hugely talented man. A total one off.”

Taking to Twitter, Lorraine Kelly said: “This is so sad. I had the joy of interviewing Carlos and @IlDivo many times over the years. He was such a class act.”
