Tributes paid as Hardy Bucks actor Alan Carter dies in Mayo

Tributes have poured in following the announcement that Hardy Bucks star Alan ‘Ali’ Carter has passed away.

The Mayo man, who featured in the beloved Irish comedy show as Scorpio, was found deceased at a house in Westport.

In a statement to JOE on Tuesday afternoon, a Gardaí spokesperson said: “Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of a body of man in a house in Westport, Co. Mayo yesterday, Monday, 26th August 2024 at approximately 6am.

“The body was removed to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where a post-mortem will take place, which will determine the course of the investigation.”

It is understood that foul play is not suspected.

Mr Carter’s death notice reads: “Ali will be deeply missed and loved by his partner Lorraine, daughter Aleisha, parents Geraldine and John, brothers Kevin and Gordon, sisters-in-law Aoife and Liona, and Caroline Carney, nephews Cormac and Jonah, aunts, uncles, cousins, work colleagues and many friends.”

Ali’s former football club Swinford FC led the tributes, posting on social media: “Ali will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

“Ali and the Carter family are a massive part of our club and we offer our deepest condolences to his partner Lorraine, daughter Aleisha, parents Geraldine and John, brothers Kevin and Gordon and all his extended family as well as all his former teammates and many many friends.”

Others sent their condolences online, with one saying: “Condolences to family and friends. Alan, thanks for all the laughs on Hardy Bucks over the years. Rest easy sir.”

Another said: “It was a pleasure to have met and have worked with Ali. Ali was an absolutely gentleman that would brighten up anyone’s day.

“My sincere condolences to Alis family and friends at this heart breaking time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h’anam dílis.”

A friend added: “Alan I can’t believe that you are gone I would give anything to have one more pint with you. Deepest condolences to all your family and friends until we meet again.”
