The Happy Pear has decided to recall one of its popular products today over fears it may have been incorrectly labelled.

The popular Wicklow-based food producers issued a recall for a number of pots of Lovely Basil Pesto bearing the batch number 7030, 7033, 7037, 7039 and 7044.

Customers who are allergic to eggs have been warned not to eat the affected batches.

A spokesperson for the company told the Irish Independent: “As a precautionary measure, we are asking customers who have bought this product – and have an allergy or intolerance to egg – not to eat it, and to return it to the store from where it was purchased.

“We have notified the FSAI of our decision to recall this product as a precautionary measure, and customer notices have been issued to stores with all the details. No other Happy Pear products or Lovely Basil Pesto date codes are affected.

“We are treating this matter very seriously and conducting a thorough investigation. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and will ensure this doesn’t happen again. If any customer would like any further information please contact The Happy Pear.”

The rest of the brand’s product range, which includes pestos, hummus, granola, snack bars. smoothies and sprouts, is unaffected by the labelling issue.
