Gary Goldsmith has been sentenced for assaulting his wife.

The uncle of Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, was arrested last month for punching his wife, Julie-Ann, outside their home in Central London. Today, he was sentenced to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation sessions. He was also fined £5,000 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £170. Sky News reports that Goldsmith pleaded guilty to one count of assault against Julie-Ann. The incident took place on October 13 outside the couple's home after the pair returned home. They had both been drinking. Chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot called Goldsmith a "nasty drunk" and said that he called his wife "a nothing and (a) whore" after she accused him of taking drugs. The 52-year-old is the younger brother of Kate Middleton's mother, Carole. He has said that he hopes to "patch things up" with his wife through joint counselling.
