Four closure orders were served to Irish food businesses in January

Four Irish food businesses were issued closure orders from the Food Safety Authority in January. Three were served closure orders for breaching the FSAI Act 1998, Hot Spot in Limerick City, Lamar & Bread in Cork, Lam Inn in Dublin 8, while one other, Colm Leavy Butchers, was served a closure in one section for activity of 'the cooking of raw chickens and the hot holding and handling of cooked chickens', under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations 2010 (S.I. No. 117 of 2010). The four food businesses are as follows:

• Hot Spot, 61 Parnell Street, Limerick (Take Away)
• Lamar & Bread Limited, Unit 28 Nordic Enterprise Park, Midleton, Cork (Food Manufacturer)
• Lam Inn, 386 South Circular Road Dolphins Barn, Dublin 8 (Take Away)
• Colm Leavy Butchers, 2 Lambs Cross Sandyford, Dublin 18 (Butcher Shop)

"The majority of food businesses in Ireland must be commended for adhering to the highest of food safety standards, but there continues to be a number of food businesses disregarding important food safety standards. Each Enforcement Order sends a clear message to food businesses that unsafe food safety practices or non-compliance with food legislation is not tolerated by the inspection officers. There is absolutely no excuse for negligent practices. Food businesses must recognise that they are legally bound to make sure that the food they serve is safe to eat. This requires ongoing compliance with food safety legislation and hygiene standards. There is absolutely no excuse for careless practices.”
