Former senator and Fine Gael TD Nicky McFadden died this afternoon at the age of 51.
The Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael TD had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease in the summer of 2012.
The mother of two from Athlone, was educated at St Joseph’s College Summerhill. She went on to do a diploma in legal studies at the Athlone Institute of Technology.
She earned a seat on the Administrative Panel in the Seanad in September, 2007. McFadden was elected to the Dáil in the 2011 General Election.
The politician was awarded with Athlone Institute of Technology’s highest honour this year.
She is survived by her two adult children; Caren and Eoin.
