A Father’s Day card has been removed from a US chain store after receiving complaints from customers.
The card, which featured a silhouette of a black couple and the words ‘Baby Daddy’, was being sold last month in Target stores across the country.
The inside of the card read:
“You’re a wonderful husband and father — and I’m so grateful to have you as my partner, my friend, and my baby daddy! Happy Father’s Day.”
Facebook user, Takeisha Saunders, took to social media to share a photo of the card which she deemed offensive.
She wrote:
“You CANNOT be serious Target!!!! Really!!!?!!!!?
“This was the only Father’s Day card that featured a black couple!”
American Greetings, the company who supplied Target with the cards, issued an apology saying that the card was intended to be “playful” and that they had “missed the mark.”
Thank you for raising this concern and bringing it to our attention. This card was intended to be a playful husband card, but we have notified the product team that it missed the mark. Please accept our sincerest apologies and know we will do better in the future.

Target has said that they are working on removing the card from all of their 1,800 stores.
A spokesperson said:
“We were made aware of some concerns about this card last week and are working with our vendor to have it removed from Target stores.
“We appreciate the feedback and apologise. It’s never our intent to offend any of our guests with the products we sell.”
