It is hoped that power will be restored nationwide by this evening.
The ESB are working hard this morning to restore power to homes across the country.
A number of customers were left without supply last night after gale force winds brought down trees on top of transmission lines.

Almost 45,000 people were left without power, with the ESB restoring power to 20,000 of these late last night. It is hoped that the majority of customers will have power once more by this evening.
According to their website the worst affected areas last night were Portlaoise, Mullingar, Ennis, Athlone, Naas, Tullamore, Celbridge, Kilkenny, North Wexford and Wicklow.
As of this morning, areas affected include: Thurles, Ennistymon, Ennis, Scarriff, Newcastlewest, Gorey, Enniscorthy, Baltinglas, Kilcullen, Mountrath, Kilmartin, Delvin.
A statement on their website reads: “ESB Networks are deploying all available resources and crews from less affected areas will assist technicians in the West, South, South East, where the majority of outages remain. Timber contractors will also be working with ESB Networks to clear away fallen trees and timber.”
