All Hallows College has confirmed that they will be shutting their doors and winding down operations with immediate effect.
The Dublin college says financial difficulties have forced the closure.
Situated in the Drumcondra area, the college employs about 80 staff and is accredited by Dublin City University.
All Hallows opened in 1842 as a seminary to train priests for foreign missions and then in the 1980s opened its doors to lay students.
In recent years it has struggled to attract new students.
It currently has 450 undergraduate and post-graduate students who are studying Arts and Human Sciences – the college says that they will be working with students to ensure that they can finish their studies.
