The young boy reportedly got into difficulty on Saturday, May 17th.
He was swimming at Lissadell Beach when a member of the public noticed he was struggling in the water.
They alerted emergency services at around 3.30 pm, according to The Irish Sun.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after the young boy got into difficulty, and a rescue operation was launched.
Sligo RNLI also attended the scene.
He was given medical assistance at the shore and was then rushed to the hospital in a serious condition.
The young boy, who has been named as Alan Singh, was airlifted to Sligo University Hospital.
He sadly passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Alan Singh is survived by his heartbroken parents and his sister.
Tributes have been paid to the young boy following his untimely passing.
The local community is said to be devastated following Alan's harrowing passing.
Gardaí confirmed an investigation is underway following the tragic accident in Co. Sligo.
