Woman (60s) tragically dies in drowning accident in. Co. Wexford

She was treated at the scene in Wexford but sadly passed away.

A woman in her 60s has tragically died in a drowning accident in Co. Wexford. She got into difficulty when swimming off the coast of Wexford yesterday evening.

Emergency services were alerted at around 8 pm on July 4th.

They rushed to the scene of the accident at Ballymoney strand and removed the woman from the water.

Despite the emergency services’ best efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been taken to University Hospital Waterford and a post-mortem will take place in due course.

Gardaí issued a statement following the tragedy.

They confirmed the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 4th.

“Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at Ballymoney strand, Co Wexford shortly after 8 pm on Tuesday 4th July.

“A woman in her 60s was taken from the water and treated at the scene by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.

“The deceased was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem examination will be carried out. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
