Ciara Mageean comes in 10th place in the 1,500 World Athletics Championship final

Ciara Mageean ran in the 1,500 final in the World Athletic Championships this evening. Unfortunately, Ciara came tenth in the race, but that's no shame at all as she was in the most elite company on the planet. Her time was 4.00.15. Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands won, with an impressive time of 3:51.96. Faith Kipyegon came in second, while Gudaf Tsegay came in third.

The Co. Down sportswoman came fifth place this week in the semi-final in Doha, which ensured her an automatic qualification in the final.

Mageean is the second ever Irish woman to make the 1500m final, as Sonia O'Sullivan did in 1998. Earlier in the week, Ciara said she was delighted to make it this far. "It's my first world final. I have worked a long time to get to this stage and I may seem ecstatic - I still have another race to go - but I ran that saying 'that's going to be my final'. "To have an Irish vest in a World Championship final - we don't often have it - and I'm absolutely over the moon." Well done Ciara, you did us proud.
