Yesterday, it was confirmed that a new payment will be offered to parents following the birth of their newborn.
The payment has been nicknamed 'the baby boost' and will offer parents essential support following their baby's arrival.
Parents will be given a once-off payment of €420 after their child is born, but the payment will not roll out until January 1st, 2025.
Parents of newborns are usually given €140 as part of the general Child Benefit payment but will now be granted an additional €280.
The baby boost will be rolled out from January 1st, 2025.
Fianna Fáil said the payment will help give babies the best possible start to life.

The move has been welcomed by parents-to-be with many agreeing it will be a major help financially.
One said, "A lot more than most countries receive."
Another said, "I'm absolutely delighted for those who need it. but for us working class people, nothing at all again."
"Delighted for those who need it and deserve it," said another.
