The body of an Irishman recovered from an Australian river has been identified.

Niall Quinn, a 25-year-old from Silverbridge, Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland has died following an accident on a boat on the River Murray in Australia.

Niall, a builder, was visiting Irish friends, who lived on the boat, to celebrate the Australia Day Weekend. It’s believed that he was on the top deck of the boat, which was located at Echuca, on the New South Wales-Victoria border, when he is said to have fallen into the water.

Acting superintendent Peter Hayes of the New South Wales police said, “On the way down he’s actually collided with the bottom deck of the houseboat and fallen into the water and gone under.”

His friends initially jumped in to try and save him but were unable to locate his body because of the murky water.

His body was later found by Victorian Police divers.
