Blast from the past! TV adaptation of Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers starts on CBBC

Malory Towers, a blast from the past.

I was an avid Enid Blyton fan growing up and devoured everything from The Famous Five to The Faraway Tree, and there’s no forgetting Malory Towers and the goings-on from an all girls school located in Cornwall.

The popular books have now been adapted for TV and the adaptation has just landed on BBC iPlayer but for those that don’t have access, it’s also steaming on CCBC from today.

Similar to the novels, the 13 part series will focus on Darrell Rivers (Ella Bright) and all the adventures boarding school brings – we’re all about the midnight feast memories tbh.

There’s also pranks, a mystery ghost and again, you’ll know exactly what to expect if you’ve familiar with Malory Towers.

As they are both new students at the school, Darrell soon runs into Gwendoline Mary Lacey (Danya Gravers) and without giving too much away if you’re not familiar with the series, they don’t get on too well.

The new programme was originally due to to air at the beginning of April but in light of school closures, the start date was brought forward.

Set in 1940s UK with the beautiful Cornish landscape a major theme, the series allows for true escapism and that’s exactly what we need right now.

Speaking about the show, Ella, in her role as a lead character, says:

“People should watch it because it brings a classic, much-loved book to life and, although it takes place in post-war Britain, it still covers current issues that people can relate to”.

Plus it’s a true dose of nostalgia for anyone who read the books as a child, we can’t wait to get stuck in!
