Audio from EgyptAir crash reveals pilots last words

The first bit of audio released from the EgyptAir crash reveals a calm on board the aircraft just before the plane crashed.

According to The Metro, as the crew flew over Zurich, the pilots checked in with air traffic controllers in Athens. They shared jokes before the pilot uttered his final words to controllers: “Good night.”

Shortly after the recorded interaction, EgyptAir Flight 804 crashed into the Mediterranean, resulting in 66 fatalities.

Pilot Mohamed Said Ali Ali Shoukair is heard on the recording making contact with controllers in Athens.

The controller can be heard saying:

“EgyptAir 804, contact Padova 1-2-0, decimal 7-2-5, good night.”

Shoukair responds with:

“This is 0-7-2-5 Padova control. (Unintelligible) 8-0-4. Thank you so much. Good day, er, good night.”

The cause of the crash is still unknown but France’s foreign minister stated that “all the hypotheses are being examined.”
