A Christian-owned bakery has been found guilty of discrimination against a customer who ordered a cake with a pro-gay marriage slogan.
The company, based in Co Antrim in Northern Ireland, was taken to court after they refused to make Gareth Lee’s order.
He ordered a cake with an image of Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie on it along with the motto “Support Gay Marriage.”
BBC News reports that the judge accepted that Ashers have strong religious beliefs but said that they were not exempt from discrimination law.
Mr Lee claimed that the bakery discriminated against him on the grounds of sexual orientation. Ashers said the slogan was against their Christian beliefs.
