Apple Macs have been hit with a particularly dangerous form of malware for the first time according to TechInsider.
Macs that use the popular file-sharing app Transmission were infected by ransomware over the weekend. This type of spyware hijacks important files on your computer forcing you to pay a ransom to the hackers who created it, usually in Bitcoin or another online currency.
This is unusual because usually ransomware just affects Windows PCs, with Macs rarely being a target.
The ransomware is called KeRanger has now been controlled by Apple so your computer should be safe today, but if you think you have been infected you are advised to to upgrade to the latest version of the app, version 2.92, to remove KeRanger from your Mac.
This should be done now in order to prevent the ransomware hitting the three-day mark if you used Transmission before last Friday.
