A woman in her 70s has died in Co. Derry after being attacked by cattle yesterday.

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) confirmed that they are investigating the fatality.

According to reports from AgriLand, the woman sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. She later died from those injuries.

According to The Mirror, DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan added: “I know the lady was attending to cattle and an accident happened that way.

“I know the family and it’s certainly a sad day in Garvagh.

“It’s a family farm and the lady was working with cattle which she probably does every day of the week.”

“She was very light on her feet, always with 101 things to do. She just got on with her day and got on with her work.”

“My thoughts go out to what’s a well-known family with good community links.”

This is the second farming-related death in Northern Ireland this week. Earlier in the week, a Tyrone farmer was killed in a slurry related accident.

A spokesperson for the HSENI said that given the recent tragic deaths on Northern Ireland farms, it is urging the farming community to always prioritise safety and think SAFE before starting any job on the farm.

Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased.
