Alton Towers Crash Victim Undergoes Surgery To Save Her Legs On Her 20th Birthday

One of the students rescued from a rollercoaster in Alton Towers earlier this week is undergoing surgery today in a bid to save her legs.

Vicky Balch, who turns 20-years old today, was trapped on The Smiler rollercoaster in the theme park with three other people including her boyfriend.

The four were later rescued by air ambulance and are believed to be battling ‘life changing injuries’.

According to the Mail Online, Vicky was originally planning on spending her weekend in Spain to mark her 20th birthday, but is now recuperating in hospital.

Her family are now seeking legal action against the theme park, which has remained closed since the accident occurred on Tuesday.

According to reports, it is believed four teenagers suffered severe leg injuries after two carriages crashed into each other on The Smiler ride on Tuesday afternoon.

Sixteen people occupied one carriage, while the colliding carrier was empty. The crash victims were trapped 25 feet in the air at a 45 degree angle.

According to Sky News, The Smiler rollercoaster had broken down earlier that morning, but had resumed action just before noon.
