22-year-old Irishman arrested at Sydney airport following serious crash

An Irishman has been arrested at Sydney Airport following a road crash in which two people were seriously injured.

The 22-year-old alleged driver was arrested trying to board a plane to Dublin over the weekend.

According to New South Wales Police, he was arrested after a crash where a car lost control and collided with a parked van.

Both the driver and a rear passenger fled the vehicle on foot. The other two passengers – a 25-year-old and a 27-year-old – were trapped in vehicle until freed by emergency services.

The younger man remains in a critical but stable condition and the older man is in a serious but stable condition.

The 22-year-old Irishman was taken to hospital once apprehended by police. He will be charged following his release.

RTE News reports that he is believed to be from Co Donegal.

Police in New South Wales are still searching for the other man.
