Sixteen people have reportedly been arrested by Belgian police during late-night raids in the city of Brussels.
The raids were conducted in a bid to find those behind the November 13th attacks in Paris, and the city of Brussels remains in lockdown for a third day with schools, many shops and the city’s metro closed.
The search is on for one of the main suspects behind the attacks in France, Salah Abdeslam, who has been on the run since leaving the French capital.
It is feared he has returned home to Brussels to plan and launch more attacks.
“What we fear is an attack similar to the one in Paris, with several individuals who could possibly launch several attacks at the same time in multiple locations,” said Prime Minister Charles Michel to a news conference on Sunday evening.
Overall, 19 premises in Brussels and three in the nearby city of Charleroi have been searched.
Brussels remains on the highest terror threat level in the fear that an attack is “imminent”.
