11 year old boy has died while taking part in tombstoning

The incident happened in Rotherham in the UK.

During the recent bout of hot weather, both adults and children could be seen jumping into a nearby lake or river from a height to cool off. However, the dangers of it are being highlighted as the body of an 11-year-old child has been found in a canal from 'tombstoning', an activity that includes jumping or diving from a height into water. According to BBC News, emergency services were alerted on Thursday when reports reached them of a boy falling into the water, with authorities finding his body four hours later. Stewart Nicholson of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that the investigation into the boy's death was in early stages.

"I think it is only right and proper that the investigation take its time, we will follow all lines of inquiry and all lines of information."

Reportedly no other children were at the scene of the incident but it was said the child was participating in tombstoning before he died.
