Is your New Year's resolution to look for love online?
'Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match, find me a find, catch me a catch...' lyrics from a song in
Fiddler On The Roof, or for some, a hilarious part in
Mrs. Doubtfire, but how many of you carefree and single folk will be singing that into your keypad this evening as you register for a spot of online dating? A lot, according to the lovely people behind two of the world's largest dating sites.
Match.com and Plenty of Fish report that the first Sunday of the New Year is the most popular time for people to register and sign-up to online dating.
In Match.com data published, sign-ups will be up to 95 per cent higher than normal this evening. If you find the site a little slow around 9pm, that may have something to do with the surge of people.
In an interview with
i100, a Match.com spokesperson said:
“We can’t be 100 per cent sure that 8:52pm will definitely be the peak this evening but it is certainly very likely to be around that time slot”.
Over 90 million people use Plenty of Fish globally, the company note the hours between 5-9pm on the first Sunday of January as their most trafficked all year.
Good luck to those embarking on the search for romance online... Remember to share any dating woes with our weekly column, Shifty First Dates!
