In a new weekly feature, recent Her.ie recruit Mary is sharing her journey through the very grown-up world of juggling a career with further education.
Looking back over her first semester and forward to a thesis, Mary is learning some lessons along the way about time management, the trials of being a born crammer, the importance of sharing the stressful moments... and the reason why "mature student" is probably an oxymoron.

Here We Go Again...
I was very tempted to leave this piece blank of all college news this week as I’m still on my holidays… but then my lovely colleague Rebecca reminded me that from next week, I’ve just two weeks of class left. Woo!!!!
The excitement is so palpable I’m like a little puppy straining on the leash for freedom.
Roll. On. The. Summer.
*employs usual avoidance tactic regarding subject of thesis*
Yes, I can taste the summer holidays just around the corner.
There is the small matter of exams of course, but they’re ages away in May.
So aside from all that, I had a great Easter break. Two weeks with no classes has been pretty amazing.
I caught up with friends, went football training and even managed to eat my body weight in chocolate.
Mission successfully accomplished you might say.
I also had loads of fun babysitting my little niece and this weekend, I’m heading off to Westport for an action-packed weekend away and I can’t feckin’ wait.
College kicks off again next Tuesday evening. And yes, I do have an assignment due that day BUT, I’m still on my holidays so we shouldn’t be talking about that kind of thing here.
Instead, I’m currently getting the lovely Cassie to show me how to use her Go-Pro so I can take it zip-lining and zorbing with me at the weekend.
How amazing will this trip be? I might even book myself in for a massage – I’ve had a pretty stressful two weeks *cough*.
On top of all that, I’m also looking up holiday deals. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, the cheaper the better.
And as I said before: thesis? Pah!
We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.‘I’m a 29-year-old woman and my income would shock my friends if it was made public’
