This Irish fan did the soundest thing while at the Euros and now he’s been rewarded

What a guy.

Proof that there are some LOVELY people in this world.

Now that the majority of Irish football fans have returned home from France after the madness of the last few weeks, I imagine it’s a fairly harsh reality check.

No more singing and dancing and charming their way into the hearts of the French nation and instead it’s back to the daily grind.

However, for one fan, life is pretty sweet and it’s all because he did something really sound while having the craic at the Euros.

You might remember this piece explaining how John O’Connor, a barman at the Dáil pub in Galway, lost his wallet while at one of the Irish games.

The wallet contained a business card from the Dáil and it was brought to the pub by a man who didn’t leave any contact details.

Being the sound crowd they are, (as a Galway girl, I know I’m a little biased), the Dáil decided to offer a reward to the equally sound fella who returned the missing wallet.

The campaign to find the Good Samaritan worked and Michael Lyons, who hails from Co.Clare, is probably on top of the world today.

Michael, (pictured below, on the left), found said wallet in Paris and asked his friend, Jack Lynch, to drop it back to the Dáil.

Thanks to his good deed and the Dáil, Michael’s going to watch his fave team, Man United play at Old Trafford with the trip, complete with spending money, covered by the pub.

Not only that, he’ll be treated to a free pint whenever he calls into the establishment.

Chatting about the wallet and the prize, Michael said that he had never expected anything for ensuring the wallet was returned with its rightful owner.

He just wanted to ensure poor John got his wallet, complete with money and cards, back.

Speaking to JOE.ie, he also said that he “was thrilled with the gift”.
