A couple in Australia have changed a big part of their wedding and marriage. They got married recently and instead of saying “til death do us part” they decided to give themselves 10 years together.

They took out a ten year contract instead of a life long marriage. The idea is that they will sit down in ten years and agree to take out another contract or if they are not happy they’ll go their separate ways and end the marriage.

The bride, Casey Beros, told the Daily Mail Australia,“It’s not to go against the sanctity of marriage, but honouring our right to make our own rules.”

“It’s something we talked about in depth throughout our relationship, and in the lead-up to the big day.”

They wanted to have the right to terminate the marrige ten years down the line and not have to go through the courts to file for divorce.

Relationship expert, Dr Nikki Goldstein, gave her opinion to the Daily Mail Australia about the concept of a 10-year marriage contract. She said:

“I see people all the time that are clinging on to marriages because that’s easier, or the idea of being on your own or divorced is scary.

“They don’t want to be seen to be failing, but they never stop to think “why isn’t it working for us?

“If there was more social acceptance from society and we did have more encouragement to create our own rules and marriages, maybe we’d see a decrease in the amount of divorces.”
