This New Bookshop-Themed Hostel Is Every Reader’s Paradise

If you to love to read your Kindle under the duvet into the wee hours of the night, this is the place for you.  A new bookshop-themed hostel, imaginatively named The Book and Bed Hostel, will open its doors in Tokyo next week. With more than 1,700 English and Japanese books and comics on display throughout the hostel, guests will be encouraged to choose a book, settle in, and get reading. The snazzy hostel website tells us the 30 beds will be hidden behind the bookshelves, and that some will only be accessible by climbing a ladder. Frankly, it sounds like all of our bookworm dreams come true. Each of the little bunks will be fitted with a special book-light, so all visitors can snuggle up with a book at any hour of the day or night. Prices start at around €25 per night. Now we don't want to judge a book by its cover, but it doesn't look like the best place to stay in the world if you like your space. The single-bed compartments hidden among the shelves range from the coffinlike compact size of 205cm x 85cm to the less coffinlike roomier option of 205cm x 129cm. Here's how the hostel describes the ambience: "The perfect setting for a good nights sleep is something you will not find here. There are no comfortable mattresses, fluffy pillows nor lightweight and warm down duvets. What we do offer is an experience while reading a book. An experience shared by everyone at least once: the blissful "instant of falling asleep.". It is already 2 am but you think just a little more... with heavy drooping eye lids you continue reading only to realize you have fallen asleep."
