Met Éireann has issued a status yellow weather warning for southern and western coastal counties this weekend.

The forecaster predicts heavy rainfall, reaching 90mm in some areas of the country, over the next few days.

Today will be mainly wet and windy. Heavy rainfall, which will subside later tonight, is expected this evening with highest temperatures around 12 degrees Celsius.

Saturday will see a mixture of thundery showers and sunny spells with highs of 15 to 16 degrees while Sunday will be blustery with some clear spells and cooler conditions.

The beginning of next week will bring more showers, blustery conditions and slightly lower temperatures.

Yesterday it was reported that Hurricane Gonzalo was heading for Ireland but either way, it looks as if the raincoats are a must!
