The Tesco National Football League continues this weekend and once more, there are some very interesting fixtures lying ahead.
Cork is setting the pace in Division 1 with a 100% record thanks to wins over Mayo and Kerry in the first round. Monaghan however will be hoping to end that winning run as they prepare to welcome the Rebellettes to their grounds on Sunday.
All eyes will be on this game in what is set to be a tough and competitive fixture.
Elsewhere, an on-form Dublin side is hot on the heels of Cork following a draw to Galway in the last round. They will be hoping to bag a win though in what is set to be another highlight of the Division 1 games this weekend when they go head-to-head with Mayo in DCU.
Galway meanwhile will be welcoming Tyrone to the Tuam Stadium on Sunday. The women in maroon and white are in a comfortable second position on the table following a draw against Dublin. They will be hoping to secure a win over Tyrone who will be heading west in search of their first win of their League campaign.
Kerry and Laois will also be looking for glory on Sunday when they do battle in Castleisland Desmonds. Kerry almost had the better of league leaders Cork in Round 2 but were pipped in the dying stages by a Geraldine O’Flynn score.
In Division 2, Cavan and Donegal are certainly looking like the teams to beat. Donegal travel to Clare on Sunday and will be hoping to continue their winning run after defeating Armagh in the last round.
Armagh, meanwhile, will host Kildare at home in what is set to be a very competitive fixture. Armagh will be hoping to regroup after the loss to Donegal while Kildare – despite a blistering opening round against Meath – will be hoping to improve on their performance against Cavan in Round Two.
Speaking of Cavan, one of the big fixtures of the weekend sees a repeat of the 2011 Intermediate All-Ireland final as Westmeath welcome Cavan to St Loman’s Mullingar. In 2011, the two sides brought the final to a replay, which Westmeath won after another hard-fought 60 minutes. Cavan are on top form this year, winning well over both Clare and Kildare. Westmeath started well, but will be licking their wounds after a massive loss to Armagh in Round 2.
Neighbours Meath will welcome Down to Ashbourne and will be looking for a win after a narrow loss to Kildare and a draw with Clare.
Meanwhile moving on to Division 3, it’s still all to play for as this league is wide open with Waterford, Leitrim and Sligo all claiming wins.
Sunday’s games will see Waterford welcome Sligo while Leitrim have home advantage against Fermanagh.
Longford and Wexford, who are both hoping to win their first game of the league, will do battle in Longford on Sunday, while Tipperary will be heading up the road to Roscommon.
Meanwhile in Division 4, which is heading into its second round, it’s all to play for. Antrim will welcome Limerick, Derry take on Wicklow while Offaly are at home to Louth.
The latter game is set to be the one to watch in this division and all-in-all, it looks like it’s going to be yet another cracking weekend of ladies football.
