Almost all of us will have seen the original and now there are a number of trailers circulating for the upcoming Total Recall remake due out at the end of the year.
But is it really possible to imagine anyone other than Arnie playing the lead character Quaid? I’m not so sure.
I’ll admit Colin Farrell does share certain traits with Arnold Schwarzenegger. After all he’s reasonably muscular and loves a bit of action. And I’m not just talking about the violent fighting kind of action.
In saying that Arnie’s are still pretty big shoes to fill especially considering the cultish following the original 1990 version has acquired over the years.
After all he was the action star of all action stars back in the day and Total Recall was one of his most famous films.
Sure all the male viewers will be happy, even if the new version isn’t up to scratch, because it includes the three-breasted woman who springs to their minds at every mention of the film. But is that really enough to make the remake worthy?
I’m of the view that you shouldn’t really try to remake films that are good in the first place. When I say good I use it in the late eighties early nineties sense of the word of course. I am by no means overlooking the at times dodgy acting, ridiculous plot and now dated special effects.
In all seriousness Total Recall was pretty ground-breaking at the time and nobody can take away from that. Although I must admit that it is the sort of film that probably will benefit from modern day CGI. Yet again I ponder if that’s reason enough to warrant a remake?
I guess we will all just have to wait and see. And if all else fails at least your other half will walk out of the film theatre happy having seen the modern day three-breasted lady.
