We all love getting the invite to pop over for a home-cooked meal, but how do you know if you’re being the perfect house guest?
While we (should) know all the essentials of being grateful and keeping our elbows off the dinner table, apparently technology is wreaking havoc on our house manners.
The popular Air BnB service has now taken a poll of people who like to use their accommodation alternative, and asked their customers what their pet peeves were when they themselves were hosting guests.
Topping the list of desirable guest traits were wishing visitors were punctual, but also included removing their muddy shoes before entering their accommodation.
According to the results, 65% of people have a real pet peeve for those playing with their phone at dinner, blaming poor phone etiquette for being most irritating as a host.
So what are the top five requests from every host?
Apparently if you want to be the perfect guest you should:
- Turn off your phone
- Avoid Instagramming your dinner
- Don’t get drunk
- Take off dirty shoes at the door
- Try not to snoop!
But don’t be fooled – as the host you have a part to play too. To make yourself the hostess with the mostess you need to:
- Put the kettle on
- Clean all the sheets and towel
- Stock up on toilet roll
- Introduce them to everyone, including pets
- Open the door with a smile
Now all you need is to set the dinner table, and ring for the butler.
