The late Maeve Binchy triumphed at last night’s Bord Gais Energy Book Awards where her final novel A Week In Winter picked up the Popular Fiction prize.
The writer’s husband Gordon Snell accepted her award as the crowd applauded in Dublin’s RDS where he paid a loving tribute to the late writer.
Maeve finished penning her final novel a few weeks before her death in July.
Maeve’s final novel A Week In Winter
A Week In Winter tells the story of a group of people from all walks of life who meet in a hotel in the west of Ireland and it is currently sitting snuggly in the bestseller chart.
Maeve’s novel had some strong competition in the form of Irish writers Marian Keyes, Cathy Kelly, Cecelia Ahern and Sheila O’Flanagan, who were all nominated in the Eason Popular Fiction section.
Other winners last night included Katie Taylor’s My Olympic Dream, Mary O’Rourke’s Just Mary and John Banville’s Ancient Light.
Maeve’s A Week In Winter is definitely one for the Christmas list!
