The Status Orange national weather warning is still in place today.

The Status Orange national weather warning is still in effect today with low temperatures, snow showers and blustery winds expected.

Met Éireann has said that it will be a cold start: “Cold and frosty this morning with icy patches on many roads at first.”

While sunny periods are predicted for throughout the day, there will also be wintry showers in the form of rain, hail and snow in some parts of the midlands.

Temperatures are expected to be between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius but will fall later tonight with lowest temperatures between minus 1 and plus 2 degrees Celsius, according to the forecaster.

Frost will also return this evening along with the wet and windy weather which means, as always, motorists should take extra care on the roads.
