PIC: This Dress Was Deemed ‘Too Inappropriate’ For A School Dance

The school says all students were told about the dress code ahead of the dance.

A high school student was forced to cover up her ‘inappropriate’ dress, as it was too revealing for a local school dance.

Gabi Finalyson was chastised for ‘sexualising’ her shoulders, and was forced to cover up with a jacket by school officials.

The school outlined the dress code for formal wear at the dance, and as well as having a thick strap, all cleavage must be covered:

“Formals, backless dresses and/or tops may not extend beyond the bottom of the shoulder blades. Girls’ dresses and tops must have a 2″ minimum strap on each shoulder. Shawls, boleros and other shrugs are acceptable if worn over the dress at all times. Cleavage covered.”

Speaking to her local news station, Finalyson told KUTV news:

“Somehow my shoulders are sexualized. Like it’s my responsibility to make sure the boys’ thoughts are not unclean.”

Turning up without a cardigan, the 15-year old was forced to wear her winter coat over her dress for the evening.

Speaking to local media, Gabi added:

“Maybe instead of teaching girls they should cover themselves up, we should be teaching boys that we’re not just sex objects that you can look at and derive pleasure.
The school says all students were told about the dress code and were asked to cover up in a “very careful and sensitive way”.
