”You are the reason my child has gone from a sick little girl back to her usual lovely self”
There is always a demand for blood and platelet donations in Ireland. In fact, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service needs 3,000 donations a week.
While the prick of a needle might be somewhat painful and unpleasant, it is certainly worth it when you know that it can be the difference between life and death for someone else.
Most people are only familiar with donating blood, but platelets are always in high demand in hospitals across the county.
And sometimes it is only when you see exactly what the donations are doing do you understand how important it really is.
A parent of a sick young girl sent a message to the IBTS Facebook page to thank the anonymous person who donated platelets which went to her daughter.
”To the person out there who took time out of their day to donate platelets which went to St John’s ward, Crumlin, you are the reason my child has gone from a sick, very tired little girl back to her usual lovely self in 24 hours””We can rescue what is left of Christmas. Thank you whoever you are.” It read.

The IBTS said this message ‘really shows how valuable donors are – blood and platelet donors make a huge difference to the lives of others”
