A sculpture of Nelson Mandela that was unveiled in Pretoria, just one day after the great leader's death, is now the subject of ridicule after a rabbit was spotted in the statue's ear.
Artists, Andre Prinsloo and Ruhan Janse van Vuuren, are in trouble after a tiny rabbit was spotted in the right ear of the artwork by a local newspaper. Authorities were immediately alerted and after contacting Andre and Ruhan received the explanation behind this peculiar additional bit of carrot-cter.
The pair explained that when they were told that they would be prohibited from signing the statue with their names as it was a tribute to Mandela, they decided to bury a rabbit as a way to let people know the 30-foot tall bronze statue was their work.
A bit of carrot-cter that authorities do not find one bit bunny funny.
The artists now have the task of removing the animal from the ear of the spectacular sculpture and have apologised for their actions.
According to
Yahoo News, Mogomotsi Mogodiri, a spokesperson for the ministry of arts and culture, said the government have accepted their apology, but still regarded it as a "senseless prank."
