Not Again – Met Eireann Issues Two New Weather Warnings

The nation is still recovering from Storm Desmond, but already Met Eireann has issued two new weather warnings. 

The weather report has warned that more heavy downpours are to be expected over the coming days, with cautions of further flooding, particularly in Western counties.

Areas around the River Shannon are expected to be worst affected, with the Irish Red Cross setting up emergency drinking water distribution points in the area.

The National Emergency Coordination Centre have said there is a “high risk” of flooding from Limerick to Athlone.

According to the Irish Mirror, more than 2000 sandbags have been distributed by Limerick City and County Council to areas in the Shannon catchment including Castleconnel, Montpelier and the Mountshannon Road in Lisnagry.

A status yellow wind warning and status yellow rainfall warning have been issued:

Status Yellow Wind Warning: Ireland South to southwest winds will reach mean speeds greater than 45 km/h and up to 65 km/h, with gusts up to 100 km/h possible.

Status Yellow Rainfall Warning: Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Kerry 20-35 mm of additional rain expected.
