The Tesco Homegrown National Football League kicked off today for Division 1, 2 and 3 and what a day of ladies football it proved to be.
In Division 1, Dublin laid down a marker for things to come when they overcame Monaghan by a resounding nine points, 0-12 to 0-3.
Elsewhere, reigning All-Ireland champions and league holders Cork eased passed the challenge of Mayo, 2-13 to 1-8. Kerry overcame Tyrone 1-11 to 2-3 and Galway were 6-15 to 1-4 winners over Laois.
In Division 2, Kildare ran out winners over Meath 2-9 to 1-11 in a pulsating encounter. Cavan cruised to a 4-25 to 0-5 victory over Clare.
Last year’s finalists Westmeath ran out 7-19 to 0-4 winners over Down, while the clash between Armagh and Donegal was cancelled due to the weather.
Meanwhile in Division 3, Sligo were comprehensive winners over Longford 1-16 to 0-7, Leitrim overcame the challenge of Roscommon 4-11 to 3-8 while in a tense finish, Waterford overcame Wexford by the smallest of margins, 0-9 to 2-2. The Fermanagh game versus Tipperary was called off due to inclement weather.
Round 2 of Division 1, 2 and 3 kicks off next Sunday, February 8th, with Round 1 of Division 4 also taking place.
