Lend A Hand – Four Great Irish Causes To Get Behind This Week

Sue Murphy

Every week in the Her.ie offices we are inundated with requests from people asking us to help them promote their charity events. While every cause is worthwhile, unfortunately we can’t get around to all of them and so for that reason, we have decided to put together some of these events from around the country. Every week, we will feature five events you should get behind or get involved with over the next few months. There are tonnes of amazing organisations in this country, let’s help them out.

 1. Care for Cian

Cian Oliver Byrne was born on the 30th June 2013 and four weeks after his birth he was diagnosed with Cri Du Chat / 5P- (Cry of the Cat) and Partial Down Syndrome. Since his birth Cian has been on 24 hour oxygen and has two holes in his heart. Cri Du Chat is a very rare condition and as such there are only 14 known cases of this syndrome known to the Cri Du Chat Society between Ireland and Northern Ireland making Cian number 15. Sadly Cian’s conditions together are life limiting and he requires 24 hour care.

Cian’s family held a fundraiser on the 13th of August to help raise funds for his care. However, if you would like to help, you can follow the link to their Facebook page.

2. 95FM Stop Tour for Limerick Children.

Limerick’s Live 95FM is aiming to raise thousands of euro for Limerick children in needwith its annual station fundraiser the ’95 Stop Tour’ for Limerick kids. This year, under the umbrella of the Children’s Ark, the Neo Natal Unit at the University Hospital Limerick will also benefit from our fundraising efforts. The Neo Natal Unit is looking to purchase vital medical equipment for its unit, which will help enormously in the treatment and protection of Limerick’s newest arrivals for years to come. University Maternity Hospital, Limerick (UMHL) on the Ennis road is the second largest maternity hospital outside Dublin with an average of 5,000 births per year.

The Children’s Ark is a purpose built Paediatric Unit on the campus of the University of Limerick hospital in Dooradoyle. Fund raising in the past has been invaluable to the Children’s Ark. The Ark has been able to purchase valuable critical care equipment to provide appropriate care to the population of the MidWest.

CARI Limerick provide a professional, child centred therapy and counseling service to children, families, and groups who have been affected by child sexual abuse. Without the support of ’95 Stop Tour’ each year, this service would not exist in Limerick.

Live 95FM will be embarking on a ‘95 Stop Tour’ of Limerick city and county, from the 22nd – 26th of September 2014. As part of our fundraising efforts they are asking Limerick businesses and communities totake part in our ‘95 Stop Tour’ by hosting a fundraisers across the city and county. People across Limerick are holding all types of fundraisers including coffee mornings, skipathons, fashion events, sponsored cycles and walks, table quizzes and trad nights, to name a few.
