Latest Irish census statistics reveal average age to get married

Wedding bells are ringing.

Every five years, the central statistics office release a census for the whole country to record everything about themselves. From your gender to your age to how many people are in your family, you spill your whole life onto this thing and at the end of it all, one massive set of statistics is created. The latest census took place on 24 April 2016 and the facts from it have been revealed in different sections and on Thursday, the fourth detailed report from the census was released. According to the CSO, the Households and Families section examines the family situations and living arrangements of the Irish population and covers topics such as marital status, same sex civil partnerships and the different types and sizes of family composition and household. In this section, the number of people who were married in Ireland was recorded and it has increased by nearly five percent since 2011. Marriages made up 47.7 percent of the population in Ireland with 1,792,151 people having tied the knot by the end of April in 2016. The average age that people get married in Ireland is 33 for females and 35 for males. Of course, getting married has a lot more to do with how much you love someone and want to spend the rest of your life with them instead of what age you are.
