Irish Author Donal Ryan Wins European Union Prize for Literature

The award recognises the best new and emerging authors in Ireland

Irish author Donal Ryan has won the 2015 European Union Prize for Literature for his debut novel The Spinning Heart.

The writer, who was nominated along with a number of other Irish novelists, was one of 12 winners announced at the London Book Fair on Tuesday.

The Spinning Heart is about life in Ireland following the financial collapse. It also won the Guardian First Book Award.
