Lostprophet’s lead singer Ian Watkins has pleaded guilty to a series of child sex offences including the attempted rape of a baby.

According to the BBC, the singer had previously “furiously denied” the allegations.

Watkins has pleaded guilty to attempted rape and sexual assault of a child under 13, but not guilty to rape. Watkins admitted to considering raping a child, three counts of sexual assault and seven involving indecent images of children. Some of the evidence was too distressing to report, according to the BBC.

Prosecuting barrister Chris Clee QC told the court: “Ian Watkins was the lead singer in a successful band called the Lostprophets.

“He accepts he was a determined and committed paedophile.”

Sentencing is due to take place on the 18th of December.

Following the reporting of the case, there has also been a mix-up online with the identity of the Ian Watkins who is involved with the sexual assault case.

Ian “H” Watkins of former pop group Steps has been the subject of online abuse since the trial, both on Facebook and Twitter. The former boyband member has now quit Twitter due to the abuse he has received.

Website E! Online today ran a story about the case but included a picture of Watkins from Steps in the body of the text as opposed to Watkins from Lostprophets.
