Galway Named “Ireland’s Most Charming City” By New York Times Magazine

High praise!

Megan Cassidy

“Welcoming and walkable and filled to the brim with old-fashioned pubs and excellent seafood restaurants, scenic Galway may be Ireland’s most charming city.”

High praise coming from one of the world’s biggest publications – The New York Times.

As part of their ’36 Hours In…’ series, the paper sent author Nell McShane Wulfhart to ‘The City of The Tribes’ to review, and it’s fair to say she was completely enamoured with the cobbled city.

She wrote:

‘Cozy, old-fashioned pubs showcase the city’s ever-growing selection of craft beers, chefs serve up west-of-Ireland ingredients in creative new ways, and almost every building housing a modern cafe or new atelier has a centuries-old story behind it.’

Picking out some of her highlights, she tipped her hat to fish and chips shop McDonagh’s, a pint in Tigh Neachtain and music in Roisin Dubh.

It’s not the first time Galway’s charm has attracted international attention.

In fact it was voted Friendliest City in The World last year by US magazine Travel & Leisure.

Well deserved.
