From Leaf to Cup: Meet Master Blender for Barry’s Tea, Denis Daly

Denis Daly, shows us how it’s done.

If there’s anyone who’s dedicated to drinking and sourcing decent, high-quality tea, it’s Irishman Denis Daly.

A “Master Blender”, Denis has been working with Barry’s Tea for 45 years and definitely knows his stuff. Trained by Anthony Barry in 1969, he visits tea gardens in Rwanda, The Assam Valley and Kenya, once a year, to meet the growers.

“Travelling is my favorite part of the job, and I’ve built strong relationships with the tea growers” he says. “These relationships are essential for a Master Tea Blender; I get offered the best quality teas first!”

A lot has changed for Barry’s Tea since its beginnings on Prince St. in Cork, but the blending, sourcing and quality of the tea has remained consistently the same.

Barry’s Tea has been blending tea in Cork since 1901.
